About Wuqi District

Wuchi District is a lively enclave where centuries-old temples stand alongside modern malls. Located just outside Taichung City, it offers a scenic setting on the Taiwan Strait and is a popular destination to shop, dine and play. Admire Qing dynasty architecture on Wu Chi Old Street and eat your way through sizzling street food stalls at the night market.

Things to do in Wuqi District

Wu Chi Old Street is lined with some of the last remaining Qing dynasty buildings in the city. While most were destroyed during an earthquake in the 1930s, Wu Chi Old Street remains intact. Several of the buildings have been reimagined as atmospheric cafes where you can enjoy green tea and traditional bean curd pudding.

Wuchi District is dotted with temples that pay tribute to Chinese deities. Dazhuang Haotian Temple is one of the most striking and welcomes you with a colourful façade and brightly-painted wooden carvings. Like many other temples in the city, it’s dedicated to the Chinese sea goddess Mazu.

Waterfront Mitsui Outlet Park is a hub for shopping, dining and family-friendly entertainment. Ride the neon-lit Ferris wheel to unlock spectacular views over the harbour and the city skyline. Asobi Square indoor amusement park is packed with rides and attractions, while Snow Town is a unique chance to escape the humidity and challenge your crew to a snowball fight.

Head to Wuchi Night Market to eat some of the best street food in the city. Try plump “xiao long bao” dumplings, “gua bao” pork belly buns and crispy spring onion pancakes. For dessert, indulge in sugar-dusted donuts and Taiwanese taro balls drenched in syrup.
