Vienna International Airport is located 18 kilometres south-east of Vienna City Centre. It’s Austria’s largest airport receiving flights from a network of destinations. The airport handles over 22 million passengers per year and currently hosts three terminals with a myriad of facilities for visitors to enjoy.

The river is used for recreation by the Viennese, and visitors will find beach cafes, restaurants, bars and Sunken City on Danube Island. Shopping in Vienna is not for the faint-hearted. Reaching Central Vienna from the airport has never been easier. City Airport Train, or CAT, transports visitors from the airport to Wien Mitte in just 16 minutes. Intercity Express runs to outlying cities and the Express Train operates between the airport and Floridsdorf. Bus services are readily available and operate into the city centre stopping at various areas of interest. Regional buses can also transport visitors from the airport to Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary.

Vienna International Airport was primarily constructed as a military airport in 1938. It was used during World War II and was taken over by the British towards the end of the war. During this time there was one runway until 1972 when a second was built and a larger arrivals hall opened. Its proximity to the capital of Austria and Bratislava ensures the airport is always busy.
